We had extreme heat here in the Philly region this past weekend. The dedicated cyclists we are, Patrick Z., Steve B., and myself headed out for a hilly 55 mile ride. A few detours led us up and over the same climb twice, which was fun. We had to stop for more fluids three times (and discovered an amazing deli in the process). About 4 miles from the end of the ride, my body seemed to shut down. I stopped sweating, got nauseous, dizzy, and overall felt like hell. So, I called it quits. Web MD tells me I was suffering from heat exhaustion, and let me tell you it’s no fun. It’s like having a terrible hangover for two days. You’re just out of it.
So, team, be wary out there in this summer heat. It’s shaping up to be a hot one in August, and there will be plenty of climbs to keep the legs burning.
Oh yeah, watch the video. It stars your Team Manager!
