On Sunday, September 12th, in Washington, D.C., a number of Wannabe Riders competed in (and finished) the Nation’s Triathlon. For most it was their first olympic triathlon, ever. Awesome right? An olympic tri consists of a .9 mile swim (open water in the Potomac River), 26 mile bike & 10k.
Unfortunately, bad weather fell on the event: air temperatures dropped which made for a cold swim (we needed wetsuits) while steady rain made for slick conditions on the bike and run. But that hardly dampened the mood.
Everyone finished (some better than others of course) strong and in good spirits. Personal bests were even achieved by some. I, personally, had a wonderful experience. What did I learn from the experience? That I have to really hit the pool this off-season in order to get better. Congratulations to everyone! I think the entire team should think about a a triathlon next year. Wouldn’t that be a terrific experience?
