Gerald, an all-around outdoor enthusiast, began cycling in 2009 when co-captain Natalie introduced him to cycling. Since then he has cycled thousands of miles; loving every minute of it. He cannot wait for the LS 2012 Challenge!

Why cycling… and running, swimming, triathlon? In 2008, Gerald was diagnosed with Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), a rare cancer, typically originating in the head and neck region. This malignancy has a slow – and sometimes relentless – progression with a tendency to grow along nerves. Particularly high rates of recurrence and metastasis to the lungs lead to a poor prognosis beyond ten years. “Lance is my inspiration, so it was only fitting that I take up cycling as a way to get fit and stay healty.”

Gerald now trains for random Triathlons and other endurance events, so if you are in Charlotte, NC, let’s connect for a run, ride or swim. But remember, I’m training to stay relevant. Whatever that means.

Natalie O.

Raleigh, NC

Co-founder, Co-Captain

Natalie claims to not be a big fan of spandex, yet looks great wearing it. She met Gerald while working together in Virginia.

Natalie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 1999. As a result of limb-salvage surgery for the cancer treatment, she has a rod that extends from the middle of her tibia to the middle of her femur. Cycling lets her continue to be active without putting too much stress on “Rod-Knee.” She has done 4 organized rides so far this year, will do about 4 more before Philly.

Team Designer

Cyclists love to look good, and Wyatt makes sure the team always looks its best. His 2009 jersey design was selected as a LiveStrong finalist! Besides all the vanity, Wyatt marvels at how lucky he is, “To be riding with my best friends, my father, and have my wife be with me every step of the way, I don’t know how you could ever ask for more. What a great experience!”

In 2011 Wyatt became part of Sunnybrook Racing Team, out of Pottstown, PA.

Mike D.Mike D.Ashburn, VAThroughout his Wakefield H.S. and James Madison days Mike never had a car and his only “vehicle” was a bicycle. Once Mike got a job, bought a car, he dropped bike riding altogether. Mike continues to lament about his weight and when Gerald mentioned something about biking a LIVESTRONG event, it was a no brainer. “It’s like riding a bike!,” Mike said. Currently, Mike is part of an elite group of wannabe riders who successfully makes fun of Gerald’s quirky ways. Maybe Mike just enjoys being with a fun group of riders who try to do something very special when they’re still on this Earth.

Grew up in NE PA with Marq. We both got into cycling around the same time a few years ago and he talked me into doing the MS century. It was a bit of a struggle for a first year cyclist but well worth it. Last year we did the Livestrong and loved it (despite the massive climb in the middle). So here I am again. I love riding but nothing compares to riding for a good cause with good people.

Natalie and I are family and that is how our relationship came to be (comrades in arms!). Natalie is very athletic and health conscious and I never have been. Last year she asked me if I’d be interested in walking a 5K while she rode 75 miles. Sure, I said; it was the most moving experience I have ever had. I invite others to come and join us in walking, running or riding. It is something you will NEVER forget. And we have a good time cheering one another on, being supportive and just spending time together.
